why experience design?

I'm drawn to world views that challenge my own. My travel experience has shown there's many ways of understanding the world.

I'm passionate about creating experiences that bring out the best in all of us, respecting different abilities, identities or backgrounds.

I'm interested in developing experiences that enable creative expression and enact positive social impact.

Design origin story

I found myself hungry for creative outlets in 2013 after years in coordination roles.

I uprooted and visited 205 cultural sites in 16 countries across 4 continents. Pouring my experience into digital content shared across multiple platforms, I grew a large engaged audience.

That project became a website, Museum in a Bottle, and was known as the #MuseumPilgrim project on Twitter. I developed a reputation as a skilled content creator with a bent for understanding audiences.

Research focus

I research, write and speak about the value of creative digital expression. I've created content for the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, J Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, Wellcome Collection UK and Museums and Galleries NSW.

In 2016, I published a book chapter based on 3 years of research into museum visitor photography practices. This research was also documented online. My interest in this area continues in partnership with Dr Kylie Budge and Jim Fishwick as we analyse a dataset of Instagram posts by museum visitors.
